Ohio University has issued an administrative directive 鈥渁s an abundance of caution鈥 ordering a fraternity to cease all organizational activities after the death of one of its pledges.
Collin Wiant, 18, of Dublin, was found unresponsive Monday morning at an off-campus apartment which is 鈥渁llegedly an unofficial annex of the Sigma Pi Epsilon chapter,鈥 according to a release from the university.
Police reported an emergency squad run was made to 45 Mill Street. Wiant was taken to OhioHealth O鈥橞leness Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Athens Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding Wiant鈥檚 death, but the fraternity has been given a cease and desist for all organizational activities.
鈥淐ollin was a recent pledge of the Epsilon chapter of the international social collegiate fraternity Sigma Pi,鈥 the release stated.
The Dean of Students has contacted Wiant鈥檚 family, and the university is providing 鈥渟upport to students and employees affected by his loss,鈥 the university stated.
