Eric Stimac鈥檚 path to addiction began with a work injury. Several years ago, he said, he was working a side job on a day off. 鈥淚t was some stage flooring,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e were unloading off the back of a box truck, and it fell off of the lift gate and then landed on my foot and crushed my foot.鈥� Stimac couldn鈥檛 walk for months. He was prescribed Oxycontin, then Percocet and eventually became addicted to the pills.

Drug maker Mallinckrodt has reached a $30 million settlement with two Northeast Ohio counties in a federal lawsuit over the opioid crisis. Mallinckrodt has agreed in principle to pay $24 million in cash to Cuyahoga and Summit counties, plus $6 million in product, Cuyahoga County officials said Friday.
