Stag at Sharkey's by George Bellows [Cleveland Museum of Art]

As part of its centennial celebration this year, the Cleveland Museum of Art is putting a spotlight on some of the most famous pieces in the collection.  Among them is George Bellows鈥 1909 depiction of a rowdy, backroom boxing match, called 鈥淪tag at Sharkey鈥檚鈥.  For more than a century, art scholars have praised Bellows鈥 skill in capturing the raw energy of a no-holds bout.  But, to get a better insight into the reality of this image, ideastream Senior Arts reporter David C. Barnett turned to a different set of critics --- a trio of boxers.
